When philanthropist Betty Noyce set out to build her custom home on the ridge on Keene Neck she sought out the best Maine talent to execute the fabulous Anthony DiGregorio design. The interiors are at once grand and personal. On the exterior, stone is used in a manner to convey solidity. On the interior, cherry is employed liberally for warmth and elegance. The artistically cut granite hearths and custom made door hardware speak to the detailing carried throughout.
One of the fireplaces graces the 50 foot long front hall/art gallery dominated at one end by the flying staircase and at the other by a curved wall guiding you naturally into either the dining room, library, or living room. All three of these rooms connect through large pocket doors giving a sweeping view the length of the house and they each enjoy the views of Muscongus Bay. The ceiling of the living room is vaulted in cherry, the library is walled in fine cases of cherry, and the dining room features corner cupboards of cherry and a wall of fieldstone. The kitchen is large and modern giving onto a granite floored solarium. The master suite is also on the first floor and tucked neatly off the far end of the front hall. The bedroom and bath are spacious, but the dressing room is the showpiece with floor to ceiling cherry cabinetry of myriad drawers, closets, linen presses, and even a wash and make-up area.
Pursuing the interest that the staircase invokes, we wind our way up to the second floor and its hallway gallery from which we can move to one of three other bedrooms, one of which is ensuite with a full bath, the other two sharing one. On this floor we also find the almost hidden playroom with cubbies and ample space for crafts and story corners. Again cherry floors, cabinetry and views are the themes. Custom made hardware is used throughout the house.
A beech-shaded courtyard and stonework two-car garage greet the arrivals. Across the drive is the magnificent and sturdy period barn capable of housing tractors, boats, hay and animals. An undercroft contains the impressive diesel generator for the compound. From here the property has the benefit of a 50’ wide pedestrian or vehicular Right-of-Way to Greenland Cove.
